There is an ongoing threat from terrorism in the country. The ideologically motivated political factions and the involvement of third parties in promoting their interests, means that Lebanon is volatile and the security situation can deteriorate at short notice. Multiple governments advise their nationals not to travel to the country unless the trip is essential and to avoid all travel south of the Litani River, in the Bekaa Valley, to parts of the southern suburbs of Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Tripoli in north Lebanon and the Palestinian refugee camps.
