Multiple governments warn their nationals not to travel to the northern and eastern areas of Sri Lanka. Though fighting in the north ceased in mid 2009, the situation in these areas is still unstable and if the underlying causes of the conflict aren't addressed, it is likely to remain so.

Charlie: The situation is certainly improving - the number of stops along the A6 Colombo to Trincomolee have reduced considerably. Jaffna still restricted access.

Charlie: The situation has vastly improved, and crime is the most immediate risk over terrorism. The A9 has reopened to Sri Lankans, and it is possible for foreigners to fly Jaffna if receive permission

Rajesh: Eventhough you hear about fierce fighting up in the north at the moment, tourism in other areas seems to continue as normal.
