Organised crime and corruption are a feature of life, particularly in urban Albania, and there is occasional associated violence. Street crime levels are no higher than in many cities in Western Europe. Parts of Kukes, Has and Tropoje, in the northeastern areas bordering Kosovo, are contaminated with landmines.
