Civil unrest occurs in urban areas, particularly in Athens and Thessaloniki, and can result in street violence. City squares (Syntagma, Exarchia and Omonia in Athens. Aristotle in Thessaloniki) and Polytechnic University are used as meeting points by demonstrators. Terrorist attacks are usually perpetrated by local groups; targets can be local or foreign. Petty crime is a problem in crowded locations and at tourist sites. Some governments advise visitors not to walk in the Athens districts of Monastiriki and Omonia or around the Larissa or Peloponissos railway stations after dark.
